Studies highlight impact of oil and gas industry on North Dakota’s economy, counties
The oil and natural gas industry in North Dakota accounted for more than $40 billion in gross business volume, nearly 60,000 jobs and over $3.8 billion in state and local tax revenues in 2019, according to one of two studies released today that highlight the industry’s substantial impact on North Dakota’s economy.
From fiscal years 2008 to 2020, tax revenues from the oil and gas industry in North Dakota totaled nearly $22 billion, according to a study conducted for the Western Dakota Energy Association and North Dakota Petroleum Council. Those revenues supported $8.2 billion for local communities and infrastructure, nearly $1.6 billion for K-12 education, over $1.2 billion for water and flood control projects, $879 million for local transportation projects, $440 million for property tax relief and $29 million for outdoor heritage projects across the state.

Through the North Dakota Petroleum Foundation, North Dakota’s oil and gas industry has helped raise and contribute more than $96,000 for conservation and wildlife habitat projects throughout the state. Working with landowners, the Foundation has planted 134,000 trees in just four years. The Foundation and its supporters also continue to partner with the Mule Deer Foundation to rehabilitate and revitalize habitat in western North Dakota for mule deer and other wildlife.

The Teacher Education Seminar brings 50 teachers together to learn more about the oil and gas industry, tour the oilfield and more.
Bakken Rocks CookFest
